Privacy Policy

1. What We Collect

We run no application server and hold no database of your locations, so your pins, notes, coordinates and alert history are never collected by us. There is exactly one exception, and it only applies if you buy PRO — it is listed below rather than buried.

• Accounts: None. No registration, login, or email address is required to use the app.
• Location: Never collected. It is compared against your pins on your device and is not uploaded anywhere.
• Analytics: None. We embed no advertising SDKs and no behavioural analytics trackers.
• Purchases: If you buy PRO, a purchase receipt and a randomly generated, pseudonymous app identifier are sent to RevenueCat so the app can verify and restore your purchase. This is the only data collected through the app, and it is why the Google Play Data safety label for PingMeThere declares purchase history rather than nothing at all. It contains no location, no name, and no payment details.
• Crash reports: Handled by Google Play only if you opted in to sharing diagnostics in your device settings. We never receive personally identifying information from them.

2. Location Data

The core function of the app is triggering an alert when you enter or leave an area you chose (geofencing).

• Foreground and background location: The app needs location access while in use and in the background, otherwise alerts cannot fire when your phone is locked or the app is closed.
• On-device processing: Geofences are registered with the Android operating system itself. Your coordinates, pins, notes, and alert history are stored only in your device’s local storage.
• No uploads: The app never transmits your GPS coordinates, pins, or notes to us or to any third party.

3. When Your Device Contacts Third Parties

A few features need the internet. In each case, the request goes directly from your device to that provider — it never passes through us. Your IP address is visible to them, as with any web request.

• OpenFreeMap (map tiles) — When the map is on screen, your device downloads map imagery from tiles.openfreemap.org. These requests reveal the map area you are viewing, but carry no account or user identifier.
• Photon by Komoot (address search) — When you search for an address, the text you typed is sent to photon.komoot.io to return matching places. Searches are anonymous and are not linked to a profile.
• RevenueCat and Google Play Billing (purchases) — Used only if you buy PRO. They receive an anonymous app identifier and the purchase receipt so the app can confirm you own PRO and restore it after a reinstall. We never see your payment details.
• Android speech recognition(optional) — If you use the microphone to search for a place by voice, Android hands the audio to the speech recognition service on your device. On most phones this is a Google service that processes audio in the cloud. It happens only while you actively use the microphone button in search, and is governed by Google’s privacy policy, not ours.

4. Permissions and Why They Exist

• Location (precise and background): To detect entering or leaving your pins.
• Notifications, full-screen alerts, exact alarms: To show the alarm on time, including over the lock screen.
• Foreground service: Optional. When you enable active monitoring, a permanent notification keeps GPS responsive so alerts fire promptly.
• Battery optimisation exemption: Optional. Stops the system from suspending the app and missing alerts.
• Microphone: Optional. Only for searching a place by voice, only while you use it.
• Wake lock and vibration: To keep the device awake long enough to speak an alert and to vibrate on trigger.

Text-to-speech is generated by the speech engine already installed on your device. The alert text is not sent anywhere.

5. Children

PingMeThere is not directed at children. We knowingly collect no personal data from anyone, regardless of age, and the app has no profile, feed, or social feature of any kind.

6. Deleting Your Data

Your data lives only on your device, so you are always in control of it:

• Delete individual pins, saved locations, or the notification history from inside the app.
• To erase everything permanently, uninstall the app. Because we hold no cloud backup, uninstalling removes all of it — and it cannot be recovered by us or by you.
• Your PRO purchase is tied to your Google account, not to the app data, so it can be restored after a reinstall with the Restore purchases button.
• To have the purchase record held by RevenueCat deleted, follow the steps on our Delete Your Data page. Note that this also removes our ability to restore your PRO purchase on a new device.

7. Changes to This Policy

If the app gains a feature that changes how data is handled, we will update this page and the date at the top before that feature ships.
